A Snapshot of the Nation's Drug War Since 1989
In what may have been the high-water mark for drug war politics in America, President George Bush launched his own drug war eleven years ago last week. In his first nationwide address, broadcast live by the major television networks on Sept. 5, 1989, the president called illegal drugs "the gravest domestic threat facing our nation today," and promised "victory over drugs." This document is a "snapshot" of where we have come since that point.
